Bokeelia and Cape Coral

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Thousands of islands, countless beaches, and unlimited opportunity for rest and recreation – that’s what you’ll find when you stay at a Southwest Florida b&b on Pine Island.

Bokeelia sits at the northern tip of Pine Island, a quiet island protected by barrier islands such as Sanibel. Once you decide that you are ready to peel yourself away from the beach or porch, you’ll find the best way to explore the region may be by boat. You can island hop down to Sanibel, where you’ll have your choice of restaurants and shops. Or you can walk among the mangroves on Cabbage Key.

Pine Island itself is worth exploring. The Museum of the Islands sits in the center of Pine Island. It is a fascinating place to visit when you want to orient yourself to your surroundings. If you are a golfer, you’ll be drawn to the the Alden Pines Golf Course in Pineland. Dodge alligators as you enjoy the quintessential Florida Golf experience. Your innkeepers will arrange a tee time for you.

Bring your binoculars when you putter through Matlacha Bay. You’ll see pelicans, burrowing owls and bald eagles. Or look for playful dolphins and manatee.

Fisherman will be aware of the world-class fishing areas in the region, such as Boca Grande Pass. Bring your own boat, or take advantage of one of the many guide services in the area. Ask the hosts of your Pine Island Fl bed and breakfasts for recommendations.

In short, you are sure to enjoy your travel to Southwest Florida.

There are Treasures in Tampa

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Ah, treasure in Tampa…. We don’t mean the kind with gold bullions that shifty-eyed pirates buried centuries ago. We mean the kind that is found in museums. There is a treasure trove of knowledge in the museums in and around Tampa, Florida – and the winter months are the perfect time to explore them.

The first thing you should do is book a room in a Central West Florida B&B near or in Tampa. Then decide which museums you’d like to visit first.

Perhaps you’ll start with the Museum of Science and Industry, where you can take a ride on High Wire Bicycle or gaze at a diplodocus, one of the largest dinosaurs ever discovered. You can take in a show at the Saunders Planetarium, or learn about The Amazing You. Or check out the ever-changing visiting shows like the upcoming exploration of Da Vinci’s genius.

Be among the first to experience the New Tampa Museum of Art

Be among the first to experience the New Tampa Museum of Art

After February 6, 2010 (according to their schedule), guests of Tampa bed and breakfasts will be able to visit the new Tampa Museum of Art. It is exciting for them, after just over 30 years in existence, to be moving into a new facility where their collection of sculpture, Greek and Roman Antiquities, and other art will be better housed.

It does get chilly from time to time in Florida, but that’s alright because there is a lot more to do in Florida than just sunbathe on beaches (not that there is anything wrong with that). Enjoy the warmth found in Tampa area museums, and the hospitality of Tampa inns.

B&B’s Welcome Business Travelers

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Many of us long to stay in Florida bed and breakfasts to celebrate an anniversary or a birthday. We dream of romantic getaways with the person we love: long walks on the beach, cuddling together in front of the fire, lingering over breakfast. And these are all great reasons to travel to your favorite Florida inns.

More and more people are realizing, however, that there is more to bed and breakfasts than romance. Many Bed and Breakfasts in Florida today are well equipped to handle the needs of business travelers. Wireless internet, fax services, and printers are a few of the amenities often required by business travelers, and many inns offer these. Some also provide a public computer, for those of you who don’t want to lug your laptop with you but need access to a computer.

The next time you need to travel to Florida for business purposes, consider staying in a Florida b&b. Say goodbye to hotel breakfast buffets, with their cold eggs and weak coffee. Nourish yourself with a home-made breakfast before your day of meetings. Enjoy a cup or tea or glass of wine in a comfortable parlor at the end of the day, before retiring to your room.

It’s no secret that people are more effective and efficient when they are well-rested and relaxed. If there is one thing Florida innkeepers know, it is how to help their guests rest and relax.
