There are, of course, other reasons to visit Green Cove Springs. One is the 18th Annual Railroad and History Festival on Saturday March 6th, 2010, between 10 am and 4 pm. This is your chance to hop aboard an authentic red caboose. The 1890 historic courthouse will be open for visitation, along with the 1879 jail. Tour the railroad collection in the train station, and enjoy the many exhibits in the historic museum. There will be Civil War reenactments, Southern Belles, craft demonstrations and antique cars. This free event will be loads of fun. See the Clay County Historical Society for more details.

Just south of town is the Bayard Conservation Area. The St. Johns River is untouched here, and bald cypress, sweet gum and maple forests are dense. There are more than fifteen miles of trails through this magical preserve. Look for gopher tortoise, wild turkey and manatee as you stroll along the river front.

Located just 30 miles south of Jacksonville Florida, Green Cove Springs is a great destination for a weekend getaway. NE Florida bed and breakfast innkeepers here are ready to welcome you to their home town.
