Market Street in Celebration, Florida

If you’ve been to Orlando, Florida, there is a good chance you’ve been to Disney World and Epcot. These places are, after all, internationally renowned. Many guests of Central East Florida Bed and Breakfasts spend at least one day during their vacations exploring the world of Disney.

Celebration, Florida, is less well known than Disney World, but it is also the result of Walt Disney’s vision. It is the first master planned community created by The Walt Disney World Company, and it is thriving.

Anyone interested in urban planning will find Celebration interesting, but so will people who simply enjoy exploring new towns. Internationally recognized architects designed many of the civic buildings: Michael Graves designed the post office, Philip Johnson the town hall, and Cesar Pelli and Associates the futuristic Google Cinema. Homes and businesses boast lovely and well maintained landscape architecture. Celebration is a feast for the eyes.

The downtown area is extremely pedestrian friendly and filled with upscale shops and diverse restaurants. Walking trails abound. If you want a taste of what civilization would be like if Disney had a say in it, spend an afternoon in Celebration.

If you’ve booked a room in an Orlando, Florida Bed and Breakfast in the near future, you may be interested in the following upcoming events in Celebration:

  • Art & Wine Stroll, October 22, 2011. Enjoy art, wine, and music up and down Market Street from 6 to 10 p.m.
  • Founders’ Day Weekend, November 11-13, 2011. This annual celebration recognizes the birth of Celebration, which is 15 years old this year.

Yet Celebration is worth a look even without special events. Stroll along Market Street and enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants. Take a walk through the village, admiring the quaint residential architecture. Talk with people about what it’s like to live there. You may be inspired to move there.
