Eat oysters at the Franklin County Oyster Festival in October.
October in Northwest Florida is glorious. Average temperatures are in the 70s, and there are more sunny days than at any other time during the year. - Destin Seafood Festival, September 30 – October 2, in Destin.
- Peanut Festival, October 1 & 2, Gabbert Farm, about an hour north of Pensacola.
- Pensacola Art & Wine Weekend, October 1 & 2, Pensacola Beach.
- Franklin County Oyster Festival, October 7-9 on St. George Island and Eastpoint.
- Back to Nature Festival, October 14-16, various locations along Scenic Highway 30A.
- Songwriters’ Festival, October 14-16, various venues in Port St. Joe, Cape San Blas, and Mexico Beach.
- Mexico Beach Art & Wine Festival, October 15, Mexico Beach.
- Chautauqua Vineyards & Winery Harvest Festival, October 15 at the winery in DeFuniak Springs.
- Baytowne Wharf Beer Festival, October 21 & 22, Village of Baytowne Wharf.
- St. Marks Stone Crab Festival, October 22, at the end of Highway 363 South in St. Marks.
Guests of Northwest Florida Bed and Breakfasts in October will feast on stone crabs, oysters and peanuts. They’ll drink Florida wine, and beer from all over the world. They’ll celebrate nature and art. When not participating in these fine festivals, they’ll go for long beach walks and swim in the Gulf of Mexico.
All in all, October in Florida’s Forgotten Coast is worth remembering.
