New Restaurants in Indian River County – Part 3

I am always thrilled when new restaurants open in Indian River County. Mom and Pop and one-of-a-kind restaurants are vital for our economy and keep the money you spend dining out in our local community. With so many new places opening recently, I have decided to continue my series with a third installment. To catch up on the first two parts, which were published in April and May of 2022, CLICK HERE

Now let’s dive right in and check out these new places and see what I had to eat!

Casa Amigos – Vero Beach, FL

In the past six months, there has been a significant increase in the number of Mexican restaurants in Indian River County. One of the most highly anticipated restaurants to open is Casa Amigos, which has already gained a reputation for its positive reviews at its Port St Lucie location. Despite facing multiple delays, it took over 15 months for the new location in Vero Beach to open. To make matters worse, they opened on the same day as Hurricane Nicole hit the area. As with any new restaurant, there have been a few growing pains. Reviews in our Facebook foodie groups have been mixed, and a few mentioning higher than average prices. I hope that Casa Amigos will be able to overcome its initial challenges and establish itself as a staple in the local Mexican dining scene.

Beef Tips Chimichanga – Served with lettuce, sour cream, and beans & rice on the side. (Mine was served with shredded beef, not beef tips)
Berry Berry Margarita – 1800 silver tequila, a muddled mix of berries, organic agave nectar, and fresh lime & orange juice.

Located in the heart of downtown on 14th Ave, across from Vero Prime, this shop offers a wide variety of ice cream flavors for customers to choose from. The shop opened its doors a few months ago and is owned by the same family as the Downtown Dapper barber shop. The shop has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere, making it the perfect place to stop by for a sweet treat. The friendly staff is always happy to help you choose the perfect flavor or to make a recommendation. So, the next time you’re in Vero Beach, be sure to stop by Downtown Dipper Ice Cream and try one of its delicious flavors.

Tequila Azteca – Vero Beach, FL

Vero’s newest Mexican restaurant, Tequila Azteca, has only been open for a few weeks and it’s already making waves in the local foodie community. Located in Miracle Mile off 21st street, in the old Amalfi Grill location, this restaurant combines classic Mexican fare in a fine dining atmosphere. Their menu includes freshly prepared classic Mexican dishes such as Chimichangas and Arroz Con Pollo that boast bold and authentic flavors. The drinks are also a highlight, with a wide variety of margaritas and house specialty cocktails to choose from. With its combination of classic Mexican food and fine dining atmosphere, treat yourself to some mouth-watering food and drinks at Vero’s newest Mexican restaurant!

Arroz Con Pollo – Chicken breast is sauteed in cheese sauce with roasted poblano peppers, green onions & tomatoes, and served over a bed of rice.
Ground Beef Chimichanga – Served with lettuce, tomatoes, rice & beans. Sour cream & guacamole were an extra charge.

Thai Esan Zabb Sushi – Vero Beach, FL

The location has recently had a lot of changes in ownership lately, and I lost confidence in it after my friend, Chef Beam, left. However, I rediscovered it again after seeing a new sign on the building. My friend, Miss Saigon, told me she was now managing the property and suggested I give it a try. The exterior of the building hasn’t changed much (just the sign), but once inside, it feels like you’re in Thailand due to the beautiful new decorations. The owner, Jutiyapond McCarthy, is originally from Thailand and had a successful restaurant there before moving to Vero to be closer to family. The restaurant was clean and the service was excellent, with the staff being attentive to customer needs and food is served quickly.

Thai Esan Zabb Roll – The roll was made with salmon, Kani, avocado, cream cheese, asparagus, scallions, spicy mayo, and topped with Masago and was beautifully presented on a raised board.
Unagi Don Grilled Eel Rice Bowl – I always like to roll the dice and pick a different dish each time. The dish starts with a mound of rice in the bottom of the bowl, then thinly sliced grilled eel is layered over the rice and topped with seaweed and scallions.

Ty’s Deli – Vero Beach, FL

Introducing Ty’s Deli, the newest deli to hit the streets of Vero! Located on 20th Street, where Moe’s Deli used to be, Ty’s Deli is the brainchild of owner Chef Tyler Ketchum. With a wealth of experience working at a variety of restaurants around the area, Chef Ketchum finally decided to open his own establishment, and it’s safe to say that it’s been worth the wait. The menu includes a variety of salads, sandwiches, Cubanos, and Korean beef tacos, all of which are sure to tantalize your taste buds. With its delicious menu, friendly service, and cozy atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot for a quick lunch or a leisurely midday meal.

Pappou’s Gyro – Sliced Greek style beef and lamb, sliced tomato, sliced onion, tzatziki sauce, on toasted pita bread

Chicken Pizzaiole – Crispy fried breaded chicken cutlets, tomato basil pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, and oregano, on a toasted hoagie roll.
