Top-Rated Diners in Indian River County for Breakfast and Lunch https://florida-inns.com/top-rated-diners-in-indian-river-county-for-breakfast-and-lunch/ Fri, 23 Aug 2024 14:34:54 +0000 https://florida-inns.com/?p=691558 There’s no better way to experience local flavor than at our top-rated diners, where meals are more than just food—they’re a taste of our vibrant community. Written by Thomas Miller, these insights capture the essence of our beloved diners, where locals come together for hearty breakfasts and satisfying lunches, all served with a generous helping of friendly service. According to Thomas, one of the best parts of his job, aside from enjoying the delicious food, is getting to know the hardworking people who run these diners. They create a warm, welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels like family, and if you become a regular, you’re sure to be greeted by name. In Indian River County, these diners don’t just fill your stomach; they nourish the spirit of community.

Country Ham & Egg – Sebastian, FL

Country Ham & Egg is renowned for its hearty home-cooked meals and strong sense of community for over 25 years in Sebastian, FL. Now run by Herb Greenhalgh Jr. in honor of his late father, the restaurant continues to uphold its legacy of friendly service and welcoming atmosphere. Famous for their pancakes and grits—often hailed as the best in the South—Country Ham & Egg never disappoints. During my visit, I tried the Turkey Club, made with fresh roasted turkey (not lunch meat), which truly sets it apart. I also enjoyed the Greek Omelet with a side of home fries, both of which were incredibly delicious.

JT’s Corner Diner – Sebastian, FL

JT’s Corner Diner has been a beloved staple in Sebastian since 2012, renowned for its all-day breakfast and hearty lunch offerings. After changing ownership in July 2023, new owner John Truckner rebranded the diner to signal a fresh start under new management. The diner has quickly regained its footing, drawing locals back with a dedicated staff and consistently high-quality food. During my visit, I sampled the Gyro sandwich and a unique dish called the Sweet and Savory French Toast. The French toast sandwich was the highlight for me, with its exceptional blend of sweet and salty flavors, making it a true standout on the menu.

Nettie’s Roadside Restaurant – Vero Beach, FL

Nettie’s Roadside Restaurant has a rich history and a strong sense of continuity that diners appreciate. Nettie, the current owner, took over in 2022 and has deep roots in the local restaurant scene, having worked in the industry from a young age. The opportunity to own Nettie’s arose unexpectedly when her bid for another location didn’t pan out (Seaside Grill), but a chance breakfast visit to the former Larry’s Roadside Restaurant led to an offer that very same day. Nettie’s quickly became known for its warm atmosphere and commitment to quality, continuing the legacy that Larry’s established over its 11-year history before changing hands. During my visit, I had the pleasure of trying a couple of customer favorites: a custom omelet with ham, cheese, spinach, and feta, and the Roadside Casserole, featuring hash browns topped with scrambled eggs, cheese, bacon, and sausage gravy. The casserole, with its hearty and savory flavors, quickly became my favorite dish.

Riverwalk Cafe – Sebastian, FL

Riverwalk Café in Sebastian, FL, has quickly become a cherished local spot since opening its doors in December 2022. The café, housed in the former Mandarin Garden location within the Riverwalk Shopping Center, underwent a comprehensive makeover under the guidance of experienced restaurateurs Larry and Debbie Peters. The couple, known for their successful ventures in the area, built the café from the ground up, creating a brand-new diner that quickly won the hearts of both locals and tourists. Tragically, Larry passed away in December 2023, making it difficult for Debbie to continue managing the café alone. In a turn of fate, Richard and Joanne Wagner, longtime loyal customers who had followed Debbie’s culinary journey for 27 years, purchased the café to ensure it remained the warm, inviting place it had become. During my visit, I had the pleasure of trying two standout dishes: the Coconut French Toast, a unique offering not commonly found on menus around town, and the Poor Man’s Benny, a hearty comfort food dish featuring biscuits, eggs, sausage, and a generous ladle of sausage gravy.

Seaside Grill – Vero Beach, FL

Seaside Grill, the iconic eatery at Jaycee Park in Vero Beach, finally reopened its doors on December 12th, 2023 after being shuttered for over 18 months. The beloved blue-and-white wooden structure, owned by the city of Vero Beach, had served patrons for 30 years under the care of Dan Culumber and his family before they retired in April 2022. Following significant renovations, South Florida restaurateurs Andy Studebaker and Wylie Wong of SW Hospitality Group took over the space, winning out over six other bidders. During my visit, I had the pleasure of sampling their Philly Cheese Steak egg rolls and the Seaside Burger, both of which were delicious and showcased the attention to quality that the new owners bring to the table. With indoor and outdoor seating, Seaside Grill offers an unparalleled dining experience, just steps away from the Atlantic Ocean, making it a popular spot for both tourists and locals alike.

The course features a mix of par-3s and par-4s, with plenty of water hazards and well-placed bunkers to keep things interesting. The layout is scenic, with views of the surrounding landscape adding to the overall enjoyment of your round. It’s a great spot for beginners or anyone looking to play a quicker round while still enjoying the game.

One of the best things about Vista Plantation is its welcoming atmosphere. The staff is friendly, and the course is known for its relaxed vibe, making it an ideal choice for families or those new to the game.

A Golfer’s Favorite

Sebastian Municipal Golf Course is a well-loved course in Indian River County, known for its challenging layout and beautiful surroundings. This 18-hole, par-72 course is a favorite among locals and visitors who appreciate a well-maintained course with plenty of character. The course is set among native trees and vegetation, offering a peaceful and scenic environment for your round. The fairways are generous, but the strategically placed bunkers and water hazards provide enough challenge to keep things interesting. Sebastian Municipal also boasts excellent practice facilities, including a driving range and putting green, making it a great spot to hone your skills. One of the standout features of Sebastian Municipal Golf Course is its community feel. The course hosts regular tournaments and events, fostering a sense of camaraderie among golfers. Whether you’re a seasoned player or a weekend warrior, you’ll feel right at home here.

If you’re not in the mood for a full round but still want to get some swings in, Indian River County has a few options. Head over to BigShots Golf, where you can enjoy an 18-hole putt-putt course and driving range bays similar to Topgolf. BigShots offers fun and interactive games that make practicing your swing an exciting experience.

For more putt-putt fun, Safari Golf & Games is the place to be. With two 18-hole courses set in lush, scenic landscapes, it’s a perfect spot for some friendly competition or a fun family outing. Whether you’re aiming for a hole-in-one or just looking to enjoy the outdoors, these spots offer great alternatives to traditional golf.

Indian River County is more than just a great place to golf—it’s a golfer’s paradise. The combination of stunning natural beauty, diverse courses, and a welcoming community makes it an ideal destination for anyone who loves the game. The mild climate means you can golf year-round, and with courses like Sandridge, Vista Plantation, and Sebastian Municipal, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from. A Guide to the Best Kava Bars on the Treasure Coast https://florida-inns.com/a-guide-to-the-best-kava-bars-on-the-treasure-coast/ Thu, 01 Aug 2024 20:46:39 +0000 https://florida-inns.com/?p=682410 If you’re looking for a unique and relaxing way to unwind on the Treasure Coast, visiting a kava bar might be just what you need. Kava, a traditional beverage from the South Pacific, is known for its calming effects and has become increasingly popular in the United States.

Kava, also known as kava-kava, is a drink made from the root of a plant native to the South Pacific islands and related to the pepper family. Traditionally consumed during ceremonies and social gatherings, kava is prized for its relaxing properties, which can help reduce stress and promote a sense of well-being. The drink is prepared by grinding the kava root into a fine powder and mixing it with water, resulting in an earthy, slightly bitter-tasting beverage. Unlike alcohol, kava doesn’t impair cognitive function, making it a popular choice for those seeking relaxation without any next-day effects.

Florida has become one of the kava capitals in the U.S. and the Treasure Coast is home to several fantastic kava bars. In this guide, we’ll introduce you to some of the best kava bars in Martin County, each offering a welcoming atmosphere and a variety of kava drinks to enjoy. Here are some top spots to explore.
