Visit Sebring Launching Florida’s Third GeoTour This Month

Sebring Area GeoTour: Florida’s Hidden Gem Launches Sept. 26

SEBRING, Fla. (Sept. 16, 2020)  – Visit Sebring is launching its very own GeoTour, Sebring Area GeoTour: Florida’s Hidden Gem, on Sept. 26, 2020. The GeoTour will consist of 38 geocaches, two Adventure Labs, and eight posters hidden throughout Sebring, Avon Park, and Lake Placid. This will be the third active GeoTour in Florida and one of only 70 GeoTours in the world. To celebrate the launch, Visit Sebring will host a day of free activities on Sept. 26 starting with the “Start Your Engines” kick-off at Sebring’s Circle Park from 8-10 AM and finish with “Unwind After 5” at Secret Gardens Winery & Farm from 5-7 PM.

“We are thrilled to add this interactive, fun for all ages activity as another way visitors and locals can explore the Sebring area,” said Casey Hartt, Visit Sebring’s Lead Marketing Consultant.  “We have hidden fun treasures all around the destination and cannot wait for caching enthusiasts to uncover the unique and interesting locations we have to offer while learning more about this fantastic part of Florida and completing their GeoTour passport.”

Geocaching is a free, outdoor treasure hunt for kids and adults alike. A GeoTour is a search for a series of geocaches (small hidden containers) that are designed to bring geocachers (people searching for geocaches) to a specific location and provides a “tour” of the area as you search for the geocache.

Through the Sebring Area GeoTour, geocachers will discover the region’s unique history, vast outdoor adventures, unexpected culinary delights, and charming small towns. By using a GPS or smartphone, geocachers will be guided along four fun GeoTrails that make up the Sebring Area GeoTour: Ranch & Harvest, Parks & Recreation, Historic, and Arts & Culture, with geocaches hidden among cattle ranches and citrus groves, museums, and historical sites, a variety of parks and numerous arts and cultural areas.

To take part in the Sebring Area GeoTour, download the digital tour passport and start following the clues. When you discover a geocache, Adventure Lab or poster along the GeoTour, you’ll be given a codeword to record onto your passport. The Sebring Area GeoTour will award a specially designed Geocoin for geocachers who submit a completed passport. People can search for as many geocaches as they like on the tour. There is no time limit to the GeoTour and it will be an activity that locals and visitors to the region will be able to enjoy for many years to come.
