Alachua County’s largest spring is now open 7 days a week. Park amenities include pavilions and picnic shelters, play areas, multi-purpose fields, volleyball courts, and bar-b-que grills. There are loop trails throughout the park for hiking, and a boardwalk that traverses the cypress swamp leads visitors to the springs. A boat launch and dock afford watercraft access to the river. Parking is $6 per vehicle, cash only.

Journey to Juneteenth Marks Florida Emancipation Date with Series of Events
Now through Saturday, June 19 | Online Event with the City of Gainesville

The City of Gainesville joins Alachua County and community partners in a month-long series of events to commemorate Florida’s actual emancipation date – May 20, 1865 – the day when enslaved Africans first learned of their freedom in Tallahassee.

A full calendar of the celebration of music, exhibits, movies and presentations at various locations, and of links for virtual events, can be found online  www.cityofgainesville.org/Juneteenth. The events are free and open to all neighbors.

The mission of TEDxGainesville GRIT 2021 is to highlight local individuals and stories to open minds and transform the Greater Gainesville community. TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, usually in the form of short, powerful talks. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

Southern soul and funk favorites return to the Heartwood stage. The Savants of Soul are a 9-piece retro-soul group performing original soul music inspired by the sounds of the 1960s, contemporary retro-soul groups and the group’s diverse collection of influences ranging from punk to hip-hop to Chicago blues to 1950s cool jazz. They are joined by folk and jam artists Tamayo and the debut of Fox and The Ox, Americana from members of The Savants of Soul.

Her latest record Steal Your Heart earned a coveted spot on Blues Rock Review’s Top 20 List for 2017.
